Julie collects East Grinstead champion title

6 October 2015

Personal recognition for the driving force behind East Grinstead in Bloom was the icing on the cake of another trophy-laden visit to the South & South East in Bloom awards.

Julie Mockford declared herself “very, very, very pleased” to receive a community champion award. As chairman of East Grinstead In Bloom, she was described in the citation as someone who has “brought about considerable improvement in her town and created a community that now challenges for the highest awards”.

The community feel is what it’s all about for Julie. “It’s the taking ownership, and the pride that comes with it,” she said. “Then you have people talking, sharing knowledge.”

As well as It’s Your Neighbourhood, she takes a particular interest in getting schools on board with gardening projects.

What a Blooming Success!

29 September 2015

Friday 25th September saw over 120 local residents, businesses, Councillors and dignitaries attend East Grinstead in Blooms Annual Awards held at the Meridian Hall, East Court. This years awards were presented to the winners by East Grinstead Town Mayor, Dick Sweatman. Attendees were finalists in this year’s gardens competition and the awards night gave Bloom the chance to reward local residents and businesses for their efforts in making the town look wonderful throughout the year.

Julie Mockford, Chairman remarked “It was fabulous to see so many residents and businesses attend this years awards and be able to thank them for all their hard work in making the town look wonderful this year. We couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone in the t  own”.

This year has been a wonderful year for East Grinstead having won an impressive 9 Awards the South & South East in Bloom awards earlier this month including Silver Gilt for the town and Julie Mockford winning the Community Champions Award as well as East Grinstead Town Council winning Silver Gilt for the Town Centre.

Judging for this years gardens took place in early August by a team of Bloom committee members who were looking for gardens meeting specific criteria for each category. Samantha Baldery, Secretary said “The judges had a very hard time choosing the winning gardens this year, there were so many beautiful gardens”. Blooms judges walk every road in East Grinstead each year searching for the towns best gardens.

East Grinstead in Bloom would like to thank everyone for attending the awards, particularly, Town Mayor Dick Sweatman. Julie said “I am looking forward to seeing what businesses and residents can pull out of the bag next year. The competition was hot this year, but next years promises to be even better”.

Bloom would also like to thank all the local businesses who donated prizes to this years first ever raffle. It was a tremendous success and all money raised will be used on the projects Bloom look after around the town. Without the support of these businesses the raffle would not have been possible.

Sam Baldery said “Our 2016 East Grinstead in Bloom calendar went on sale this evening at the awards and will be on sale at The Bookshop in the High Street and will also be available to purchase on our website”.
