What a Blooming Success!
29 September 2014
Friday 26 September saw over 100 local residents, businesses, councillors and dignitaries attend East Grinstead in Blooms Annual Awards held at the Meridian Hall, East Court. This years awards were presented to the winners by East Grinstead Town Mayor, Nick Hodges. Attendees were finalists in this year’s gardens competition and the awards night gave Bloom the chance to reward local residents and businesses for their efforts in making the town look wonderful throughout the year. Julie Mockford, Chairman remarked “It was fabulous to see so many residents and businesses attend this years awards and be able to thank them for all their hard work in making the town look wonderful this year. We couldn’t have done it without the support of everyone in the town”.
This year has been a wonderful year for East Grinstead having won an impressive 9 awards the South & South East in Bloom awards earlier this month including Silver Gilt for the town and Best War Memorial in the South & South East.
Judging for this years gardens took place in early July by a team of Bloom committee members who were looking for gardens meeting specific criteria for each category. Samantha Baldery, Secretary said “The judges had a very hard time choosing the winning gardens this year, there were so many beautiful gardens”. Blooms judges walk every road in East Grinstead each year searching for the towns best gardens, but this year also enlisted the help of the towns residents through Twitter and Facebook asking for nominations which provided some beautiful gardens that were shortlisted. “The use of social media this year has dramatically increased and our followers have been fantastic – nominating some wonderful gardens” commented Samantha.
East Grinstead in Bloom would like to thank everyone for attending the awards, particularly, Town Mayor Nick Hodges. Julie said “I am looking forward to seeing what businesses and residents can pull out of the bag next year. The competition was hot this year, but next years promises to be even better”.
