The results are in – we did blooming brilliantly!

Yesterday, 17th September, saw East Grinstead in Bloom and East Grinstead Town Council representatives attend the prestigious South & South East in Bloom Awards at the Brighton Amex Stadium to receive their certificates and awards for this year’s efforts in the In Bloom competition held in July.

This year the town entered several categories including Large Town, Best Allotment, It’s Your Neighbourhood Projects (Hurst Farm Pond, Compass Garden and Millennium Garden) as well as first time entries into the following categories: Best War Memorial, Churchyard of the Year, Business Landscape of the Year, Front Garden Award and In the Spotlight Award (publicity award).

East Grinstead Chairmain, Julie Mockford, said “I couldn’t be happier with this year’s results. I want to commend the committee for their continued hard work – they are such a hard working team. It was fabulous that the EGTC team were commended for the excellent work and the well-deserved accolade for their incredible war memorial. I look forward to driving our entry on to winning the illusive GOLD next year.”

The results were as follows:

  • Large Town – East Grinstead – Silver Gilt
  • Churchyard of the Year – St Swithuns Church – Silver
  • Business Landscape of the Year – The Felbridge Hotel – Silver Gilt
  • It’s Your Neighbourhood – Hurst Farm Pond – Level 2 (Improving)
  • It’s Your Neighbourhood – Compass Garden – Level 3 (Developing)
  • It’s Your Neighbourhood – Millennium Garden – Level 4 (Thriving)
  • Best Allotment – Mount Noddy Allotments – WON – Best in the South & South East
  • Best War Memorial – WON – Best in the South & South East
  • In The Spotlight (publicity award) – WON – Best in the South & South East

Samantha Baldery, Secretary, said “I am absolutely thrilled that we have improved on last year’s awards and done so well in the new categories we entered. I am so excited that we won the In the Spotlight Award for publicising Bloom and that the efforts of East Grinstead Town Council have been recognised by being awarded the Best War Memorial Award. It is a fantastic achievement that we can only hope to improve upon again next year”.

East Grinstead wish to thank the residents and business of the town as well as the town council for their continued support in the run up to the judging.

The next exciting event in the Bloom calendar will be next Friday 26th September where the town will see East Grinstead in Blooms Annual Awards Ceremony being hosted at East Court to recognise local gardeners and businesses for their hard work helping make the town look blooming marvellous.
